A
quality, hugable, lovable investment...
. . .one
which offers multiple returns. Alpacas have their own personality and
require little care. They eat hay, protein and mineral supplements and
appreciate
fresh water. Minimal veterinarian attention is required. Fiber sales from
annual
shearing can offset maintenance costs. And, alpacas can be insured for
100% of
their value.
The offspring
produced often sell for as much or more than paid for the mom (Dam).
Quality males are sold as herdsires, providing income through breeding
fees. Quality females are sold as breeding females for producing offspring.
Treated
as a depreciable asset, the alpaca purchase price can be depreciated,
usually over 5 years. And a huge tax advantage is application of IRS
Rule 179 which permits write-off in 2005 of $105,000 against income
for alpaca and business related purchases.
